Since we are going to be in the area, I thought we might want to travel to Hong Kong for a few days to visit that interesting city before heading back to the United States.
We will spend two nights and three days in Hong Kong. Our hotel is the lovely, 5 Star Hotel, Harbour Grand Kowloon. Here are images of this hotel:
Harbour Grand Kowloon
Accommodation offers 554 luxurious and well-appointed Hong Kong guest rooms, including 86 suites and serviced suites. Our luxury Kowloon accommodation has spacious rooms designed for guests who are particular about comfort and functionality. The majority of our beautifully appointed rooms boast outstanding harbour views.
Equipped with wireless broadband Internet service, our guest rooms and Serviced Suites share a contemporary, spacious setting and are available on a daily and long stay basis. A host of valuable benefits and privileges are available on the Harbour Club Floors.
While we have time to explore Hong Kong on our own, I am planning these trips to some of the best known sites in Hong Kong:
Wong Tai Sin Temple
Wong Tai Sin Temple is one of the most famous temples in Hong Kong. Known for its fortune tellers, visitors flock here year round so that the soothsaysers that reside in the temple can inform them as to their future.
Jade Market in Kowloon
Unlike some of the touristy markets in Hong Kong, this one is an actual market, although a rather ugly one. It is, and looks like, a collection of covered stalls under a road flyover with only a rather gauche red and green temple gateway added to one corner to give it some "Chinesy" theme.
Harbour Cruise Bauhinia
Harbour Cruise Bauhinia operates a 2-hour nightly cruise with an international style buffet dinner and a live band. The cruise aboard the luxurious tour boat includes unobstructed views of the "Symphony of Lights" multimedia show. The boat is equipped with a bar, lounge, main hall and dance floor. The tour starts at North Point Ferry Pier on Hong Kong Island and then follows a circular route around the harbour via Tai Koo, Shau Kei Wan, Chai Wan, Lei Yue Mun, Cha Kwo Ling, Kai Tak, Hung Hom, Tsim Sha Tsui, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay.
Victoria Peak
Being 554 meters (about 1,817.6 feet) above sea level, Victoria peak is the highest point within Hong Kong and occupies the western part of the island.
How to reach Victoria Peak? Tourietss can take the Peak Tram, a pleasant ride ascending the mountain. The tram has been in operation for over one hundred years, and to date, no accidents have ever occurred. Your journey aboard the tram will take eight minutes, and upon reaching the summit you will see a seven-storied building in the shape of a ship.
Floating Community of Aberdeen
The world-famous Aberdeen Fishing Village (or called Floating Village) is located at the Aberdeen Harbour (Typhoon Shelter) in the Southern District of Hong Kong. The harbour contains approximately 600 junks, which house an estimated 6,000 people.
Repulse Bay
Repulse Bay, located in the southern part of Hong Kong Island, is the most spectacular bay in the region. Its name comes from a 19th century battle in which the British army repulsed attacking pirates. Today, Repulse Bay is a luxurious residential area of dining, relaxation, and aquatic activities.
Stanley Market of Hong Kong Island
Stanley Market is one of the must-go places for tourists when they visit Hong Kong. You will find an interesting array of little shops selling silk garments, sportswear, art, Chinese costume jewelry and souvenirs.
