Getting to Martha's Vineyard
The Island of Martha’s Vineyard can be reached by sea or by air; there are no land routes, bridges or tunnels connecting it to the mainland.
We know that the extra effort of getting to an island can seem daunting, especially for a first-time visitor. However, the journey is not only worth it, it’s scenic and fun! From the deck of a ferry, passengers enjoy gorgeous surrounds that tempt you with the natural beauty of the Island.
Upon arrival, you will disembark at one of the distinctive port towns. Within a few steps you will find taxis, public transportation, rental cars, scooters and bicycles to help you get around.
You’ll also find one-of-a-kind dining, shopping, beaches – so much to see and do you’ll be delighted you made the extra effort!
By Sea
There are several options available when accessing Martha’s Vineyard. Ferries make regular runs between Martha’s Vineyard and the mainland daily. Getting to the ferries is easy! Here are directions to reach the ferries by car and by bus. If ferries aren’t for you, there is also the option of chartering a private boat or securing concierge transportation services.
By Air
Martha’s Vineyard is easily accessible by plane. The Island is home to two airports - one for private planes, the other serviced by Cape Air year-round from Boston and additional seasonal locations in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York. JetBlue and Delta offer seasonal service direct from JFK in New York, and US Airways provides seasonal service direct from Washington, D.C. Tradewind Aviation operates a shuttle service between Martha's Vineyard and White Plains, NY, along with its charter service.
Amtrak has year-round train service to Boston with connections to Martha's Vineyard. There are also seasonal connections from the Kingston, Rhode Island train stop to Martha's Vineyard.
Cape Flyer offers seasonal commuter train service from Boston from June through September.
